Did my boyfriend overreact?

I texted my boyfriend "I gotta tell you something" before leaving the movies because my friend had an issue with her BF so we left to just deal with that anyways, I had to drive and so once I got to my friends I checked my phone my guy was like saying if u dont text me back within 5 min I''m not going to talk to u for the rest of the night...then I tell him what happened about this kid saying something about my dad. (my dad is not in my life and he said something in a joking way but still it bothered me) that's why I texted my boyfriend, my boyfriend replies to me "thats not really what happened" "tell me what really happened" and that is what happened and I came home with IMS with him saying he was annoyed that I texted him that I had to tell him something and then wasn't saying something right away(but he didn't know I was driving or about to or I was dealing with my friend who's boyfriend was breaking up with her so I had to comfort her) I don't know if he's mad but he told me he didn't want to hear any excuses because he thinks I will have them for not answering. There's no excueses just what happened. Is he mad? If so you think this is fixable and he could forgive me? I can't lose him over this..its just a big misunderstanding
